Team SmartStop presented by Mountain Khakis
Team SmartStop p/b Mountain Khakis began as Time Pro Cycling in 2006, based out of Winston-Salem, NC. Now veterans to the USA CRITS Series, the team has grown under the expertise of team owners Jamie Bennett and Pat Raines, former professional cyclists and North Carolina residents. After taking the Team and Individual Overall crowns of the 2012 USA CRITS Series, Team SmartStop returns in 2013 once again as a USA CRITS Division 1 team with a power-packed squad.
Additions to the roster for 2013 include Bobby Lea, a 2-time Olympian; Ben Chaddock, the current Canadian criterium champion; sprint ace Frank Travieso; Curtis Winsor, a 2nd year pro; and returning alumni of the Mountain Khakis legacy, Isaac Howe, who has spent the last two years on Kenda Pro Cycling; and Jackie Simes, rejoining after a stint with Jamis. Team SmartStop has also signed Chris Uberti and Daniel Patten, both of whom have gained recognition in strength and endurance as amateur racers. Adam Meyerson and Jon Hamblen will serve as road captains as they bring and share their own pro experience and tactics with the younger riders. And finishing off the Team SmartStop team are returning racers Travis Livermon, Shane Kline, Clay Murfet and Chris Monteleone.
Along with a strong roster, Team SmartStop has an impressive set of goals they aim to hit in 2013.
“Our team has done very well in the USA CRITS Series, winning both the individual and the team overall classification every year since 2009,” said Nathaniel Ward, Director of Media Relations for Team Smartstop p/b Mountain Khakis. “And of course, after finishing 2nd in the NCC standings last year, we can’t help but have our appetite whetted for the possibility of a win there. Realistically, that is a very tough goal that requires a lot of consistency, and a lot of luck, but of course it’s there as something that the guys think about.”
As the 2013 USA CRITS Championship Series kicks off, Ward provided some insight into how the team is preparing for this adventure.
“Getting off to a good start at the criteriums in Delray Beach, FL and Tucson, AZ is a big priority for us. Our crit squad, and in particular our sprinters Isaac Howe, Shane Kline, and Frank Travieso will be primed and ready to go for these races.”
